WeWork

Illustration + Animation . Ronik design

One of the most rewarding parts of my time at Ronik Design was the range of experiences I was able to have during my short six months there. This unexpected project was to explain how WeWork can help transform and maintain your new office space. By using bright and unique colors, this animation was able to express the important information provided by the client as well as being entertaining and engaging for many different audiences.

When I joined the project, the design direction had already been set, and the first rounds of story boards had been made. It was my responsibility to start the animations and bring the illustrations to life as well as create new story board scenes that needed to be reworked after client reviews. With the help of my manager, I was able to quickly learn new AfterEffects techniques that made the editing process intense and rewarding. Using puppets and many many different layers, each little interaction within this animation was a point of discussion between me and my manager. Obsessing over the small details about the timing of each object to the way the tea bag tag flung back and forth gave me the focus to create the best animation I could.

Once the storyboard was finalized and I started to animate the scenes together, I had to flex new muscles. Creating movement between scenes and that flowed seamlessly and having unique visuals was a challenge at first. Some scenes had their own three dimensional realistic space that needed to be imagined and others were more abstract, working between these two types of dimensions was a new experience for me.

Being at such a small studio also meant I was responsible for not only the animation but also for acquiring background music to present to the client. Finding the perfect balance between a corporate professional tone and a more modern uplifting tone in an audio that would fit the timing of our animation was a fun new challenge.
