Hope Lights The Way
Book DESIGN, Typography . TYPE II
Using the transcription of cassette tapes recorded by my grandfather telling his life story from his prewar childhood in Czechoslovakia, to the hope that lead him to survival during the Holocaust, to his thriving family business in Pittsburg, I set and designed this visual journey. A mixture of personal photographs from across his entire life and scanned physical mementos are interspersed with artworks painted in the Czechoslovakian region. Using only two typefaces, I was challenged with showcasing clear hierarchy to lead the reader through the book.
